Forensic Lab

Location: Central Piedmont Merancas Campus - 11920 Verhoeff Drive, Huntersville, NC

Become a real crime scene investigator for a day by touring the place where real life CSI's are trained. Visitors to our state-of-the art American Academy of Applied Forensics lab located at Central Piedmont Merancas Campus in Huntersville, NC will tour our facilities and participate in demonstrations and activities used in forensic laboratory and crime scene processing.

Central Piedmont established the American Academy of Applied Forensics in 2001 to meet the region's rapidly growing need for well-trained professionals in the field of crime scene investigation. Our Forensic Academy trains police and crime scene investigators all over North Carolina and as many as nine other states send people here for training.

Our workshop curriculum is designed for middle and high school aged students, and adults of all ages.

Workshop dates are limited to facility availability and are scheduled on request. Tours are often run on weekdays from October 1 through April 30.

The cost of the requested workshop is dependent upon the type of the workshop and the size of the group. The fee will be stated at the time of scheduling and confirmation.

Workshop and Demonstration Types:

  • Basic Workshop & Demonstration: 2 hours (max 25 people, min 10 people)
  • School & Youth Program Workshop & Demonstration: 2 hours (max 25 people, min 10 people)
  • Customized Workshop & Demonstration: 2-4 hours (max 25 people, min Family of 4)

Each Workshop and Demonstration includes:

  • Introduction to Forensics and CSI work
  • Tour of our AAAF Forensic Lab, Digital Evidence Lab, Mock Courtroom, Crime Scene Rooms and outdoor activity
  • Demonstration of Bluestar blood reagent
  • Demonstration of shooting reconstruction with lasers and photo-spray
  • Demonstration and practical exercises using magnetic powder and magnetic wands to lift your fingerprints
  • Demonstration and explanation of skeletons and various skulls
    • Options depending on time availability
      • Computer and cell phone forensics demonstration
      • Foot casts and tire tracks
      • Observe a mock crime scene

Customized Workshop & Demonstration for a Large Group by Request: 2-4 hours (max of 125 people)

  • Includes the basic workshop; limited dates available fall and spring semesters
  • This workshop also includes breakout sessions with our certified crime scene staff. Breakout sessions include: Fingerprints- blood reagents- Digital Evidence and Gadgets-Tour

Corporate Team Building Training & Workshop: 8 hours (max 30 people)
Minimum Cost $4,000 *includes lunch and materials

  • Welcome and Intro to Central Piedmont: 8:30am
