Laboratory Safety:
  1. Do not eat, drink, store food, apply cosmetics, or groom your hair in the lab.
  2. Always wear closed toe shoes in the lab.
  3. Disinfect all work surfaces at the end of class and if you spill something. To disinfect the area you may use a
  4. sanitary wipes.
  5. You should always wash your hands at the end of class. It is good laboratory practice to wash your hands or
  6. use hand sanitizer at the beginning of an experiment. Keep hands away from your eyes and mouth.
  7. If a spill or breakage occurs, inform your instructor immediately. Do not touch broken glass with your hands.
  8. Your instructor will guide you regarding the correct clean-up procedure.
  9. Long hair must be tied back
  10. Dress appropriately for the lab activity. Lab coats, safety glasses and gloves are available, if necessary.
  11. Do not engage in horseplay in the lab. Act responsibly and concentrate on the task at hand.
  12. Inspect equipment before use and ask the instructor for directions if you are unsure how to use it.
Accidents and First Aid:
  1. Report all accidents, such as cuts, immediately to your instructor. Your instructor will help administer first aid as necessary.
  2. All existing cuts should be covered before coming to the lab. You do not want to risk infection.
Handling Chemicals:
  1. All chemicals in the lab are to be considered as possibly harmful
  2. Do not touch, taste, or smell any chemical unless specifically instructed to do so
  3. Never remove any chemicals or other materials from the lab
Become Familiar with your surroundings:
  1. Where are all exits for the room you are in today?
  2. 2.Where would you shelter in place if necessary?
  3. Where is the phone and you can use 6911 to call for help?
Standard Precautions: Be sure to ALWAYS follow standard precautions. Treat all materials as hazardous and be sure to properly dispose of materials. You may be working with bacteria, dissection of preserved body parts, and other materials which require your full attention and care. Do not assume that materials are non-hazardous because we are in the college lab.

My camper and I have read and understand all of the above regulations and procedures understand that they may be working with hazardous materials. Our signatures ensure that my camper will work in a safe laboratory setting and will follow all guidelines, both written and verbal. Failure to comply can lead to immediate dismissal from the camp with no refund.
